How did our coastal mountains form?
Mountains form through plate tectonics, when large plates of Earth’s crust collide. When landmasses strike one another over the course of many millions of years, ground shifts upward, forming mountains. The Appalachian and Rocky mountains are evidence that both coasts of North America have experienced collisions.
